iPads being used more in corporations.

We all knew this was coming. Of course they relax the rules to allow the use of iPads. Now that several months have gone by and the technical people spend a lot of their nights figuring out how to how use it safely in their corporate environments. And what training they could get for some of the common software that the bosses are using. Also also to learn the answers to questions like “How do I print” and “How do I get this stuff on my SD card” or at least find the information so when the boss asks they can say Apple didn’t provide an easy way, here is what you need to do every time.

Foxconn makes everyone have fun to relive stress

Forced time off for a half a million employees in there Foxconn company community. It’s to cut down on stress that it’s employees are feeling with the 131.80$ a month pay before the drastic overtime that they have to put in and the living conditions in a this company town. No word on the 20% raise that was announced in May that the employees were to be given. I don’t know the culture so I hope this works, killing one’s self is just wrong.

People Magazine to let subscribers use it’s iPad App for free

This is great. Finally a magazine that is not double dipping for money. People Magazine to let subscribers use it’s iPad App for free. I wonder exactly how they are going to carry it off. Will it be like this: You subscribe to the paper one, then when you download the app and when you install it will ask for your name/address/phone or some other identifier and then activate? I wonder what Apple thinks of this, since if they have a free App but people still pay for it does Apple get a cut still?

Learn how to jailbreak by going to an Apple Store its Genius

It’s to funny, if you want to try to jailbreak go an Apple Store and try it on one of their devices. Apple has stopped people by blocking jailbreakme.com but all you have to do is see if other wi-fi hot spots are around and use them, or bring your own. While I don’t approve of anyone doing this, since it’s not your device , it is funny that someone came up with the idea. I guess Apple will have to watch everyone like a hawk, since it takes about an hour to re-set the phones back to normal.

More about Apple iPhone Jail breaking

http://www.pcworld.com/article/201968/never_mind_legality_iphone_jailbreaking_voids_your_warranty.html;jsessionid=2492956974571345A6C07278E8C246E2

The above article goes on about how bad it is to jailbreak your phone, it could void your warranty, it could also brick your phone. The article also talks about how Apple tried to get the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to make jail breaking illegal.

This brings up the real issue, “Should a device maker stop people from modding what they pay for?” This would be like someone who buys a car is not allowed to change the wipers, the seats, the steering wheel, the rims, the engine, etc of the car. People should not be allowed access to the ODC computer that allows them to change the pulse on the fuel injector and so on. Or even someone who buys a house that can’t remodel it. After all this is just a “smart phone” right? You should be able to do what you want with it. Right?

It really seems as though Apple has lead the way to making this acceptable, now Android phones have similar locks on it and I’m sure any new phone will have some kind of lock system on it, not to mention the kill switch for “unauthorized apps” and so on.

I feel the real reason to not allow this is to cut the technical support overhead out of it all. To give the user an easier time of using it. This way the company has complete control over what and how the user has making it appear that the device is better than what it is or could be because the person is kept away from harm. Harm that they don’t know about. So Apple is being a good Shepard and keeping the sheep safe. And because everyone loves Apple they are leading the way into making this acceptable in business and in everyday use. Papa Jobs will keep us from harm.

No App store is. Apple and Andriod App stores have security issues.

Your not safe anywhere!

Study finds 14% of free Iphone apps can snoop contacts while 20% of Android apps can steal the data. My my my. Apple it’s not just about you on this. I wonder how you could spin this one.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Apple is finally getting big enough to have Microsfot size problems. Is this good or bad it is to soon to tell.

But I guess Apple will say it’s not their fault that this can happen.

I guess heads rolled?

http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9180378/Apple_s_head_of_iPhone_engineering_out_after_Antennagate_?taxonomyId=12

“Papermaster’s departure immediately ignited speculation that it was connected to what Apple CEO Steve Jobs called “Antennagate” last month.”

“Papermaster oversaw the engineering of two of Apple’s four revenue pillars: the iPhone and the iPod. In the second quarter of 2010, those two lines generated 44% of the company’s total income”

“I don’t think that’s the case,” said Brian Marshall, an analyst with Gleacher & Company. “When you have a company the size of Apple, you’re going to have turnover at low levels and high levels. I don’t see this as that big of deal.”

So let me see, it was IBM’s fault for the antanne problem.

Thanks APPLE! Blackpad By RIM to be costly

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-30/rim-is-said-to-plan-tablet-computer-for-november-to-take-on-apple-s-ipad.html

And I quote “Pricing for the device will be in line with the iPad, which starts at $499, the person said. RIM is focused on reaping additional profits from the tablet effort, rather than competing on price to sell a large number of devices, the person said.”

If you missed it the section stated that really bothers me is ” RIM is focused on reaping additional profits from the tablet effort, rather than competing on price to sell a large number of devices, the person said.”  To me this means that RIM is going to sale the tablet at a high cost so that they can make more money per item sold and sale less of them, instead of saleing a lot of them at a cheaper price to make the same amount of profit (as would be my guess)

The issue is has Apple finally made people beleive that cheaper is weaker, or crap for that matter? Will people say “Oh it costs a lot so it must be good?” I thought we were past that mentality. What ever happened to make an affordable device that works great?

Thanks Apple.
