Why are the ebooks more expensive?

Why are the ebooks more expensive? In the article it talks about how you can buy a paper back book for 9$ but the ebook is 12$, why? Also the problem is you can not give away ebooks, sure you can share for a 2 week period on some but you can’t give it away. No longer will the system of passing down the family books that you thought were good, now the kids will have to buy their own if they want it.

I remember going though my own families books and reading them. When I was nine I remember picking up my older brother’s copy of Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast Club and reading it or the books on WWII that my dad had laying around. That will no longer happen in the future. Growth will be dampend because of this. Since e-books are setup in such a way that sharing is not allowed. Sure the publishers and authors want and should get there cut but how will this happen in the family in the future. Should a family buy one reader that everyone should share? How would it be shared? How do you really share your computer right now with everyone in the family? The same is true with books, only one reader at a time. But my point is sure one reader at a time, but you have multiple readers of that one printed book. Now you can not do that. I wonder if we have taken a step back from the meaning of the Gutenberg’s printing press where the idea was that you print as many copies as you can and as many people can read as many single copies printed as can be.

Also with the effect of with the ebooks that they can pull any book off the device that the ebook creators feel should not be out there. Just think Amazon did that with the “Nineteen eighty four” and “Animal Farm”. What will stop them or anyone else in the future.

Facebook Places: Privacy at risk

Microsoft does it again; change something and then everyone scrambles to change settings and update there other apps because of the new feature and on it goes. Microsoft just doesn’t get it, quit changing things, people hate change. I don’t care if the new feature is really neat and you will be able to make money off of it by sailing ads or teaming up with companies to have them do promotions so people will come to a place and get coupons or cash for showing up. I don’t care. What I do care is the recklessness of you Microsoft for adding this feature so that stalkers and bulgers will know where I am and in the case of the stalker see where I am, and the bulger to rob me when I’m not home. And why would anyone want to check in all the time to let everyone know where they are? I never liked telling my parents where I am at. Oh wait sorry Microsoft did it again this time it’s Facebook. I just get carried away since you always are on my mind, you big lovable company. Love you Papa Bill and Papa Steve!

Google getting ready the Chrome Web Store

Google getting ready the Chrome Web Store. So developers can get ready for when it launches latter this year. Isn’t this a little like Microsoft’s open call to Developers. Is Google really just looking to see how many people / items to sale in it’s store?

People Magazine to let subscribers use it’s iPad App for free

This is great. Finally a magazine that is not double dipping for money. People Magazine to let subscribers use it’s iPad App for free. I wonder exactly how they are going to carry it off. Will it be like this: You subscribe to the paper one, then when you download the app and when you install it will ask for your name/address/phone or some other identifier and then activate? I wonder what Apple thinks of this, since if they have a free App but people still pay for it does Apple get a cut still?

iPhone on Verizon?

http://www.dailytech.com/Reports+iPhone+Prepares+to+Hit+Verizon+Apple+Antenna+Chief+Canned/article19289.htm

Well the above article makes a pretty good argument for that. SEC reports from AT&T could be hinting at it. Don’t want to scare away inventors especially since the Iphone really helped out AT&T’s stock prices. Just think if iPhone started out on Verizon it’s stock would be twice as high as it is today blowing away AT&T.

Foxconn China Worker Dies After Being Found Injured & another sucide attempt

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-08-05/foxconn-china-worker-dies-after-being-found-injured.html

This is truely sad. I feel for the families of the Foxxconn workers. They are trying their best to make a living like everyone else. I hope that something can be done to stop the pressure that those individuals are under. I wonder if it’s the chemicals in the creation of the devices or the number of units that are pushing them to this or is it just the overall condition of where they are. From what I understand they live in company towns, working very long daily hours, living in communial rooms , making somewhere around 132$US a month
